2006 National Elementary Championship:
Quail Run Chess team compete in the K-6 Championship division and K-1 division in
2006 National Elementary Championship held in Denver. The K-6 team earned the 13th
place trophy, and, individually 6th grader Alan Shi placed 16th!! CONGRATULATIONS
ALAN!! Competing in K-6 behind Alan were 2nd grader Cole Reams, 5th graders Luke
Lesslie, Garrick Clapp, and Andrei Elliott, and 4th grader Aaron Simon. It was the
first USCF sponsored event for Garrick and Aaron. Garrick came away with the 2nd
place trophy for an unrated player in the Championship division. 1st graders Jonathan
Lesslie and Finn Dobbs, and Kindergartner Ting-Ting Shi were very successful in
the K-1 division with Jonathan winning 4 points, Finn 3, and Ting-Ting 2.5. Look
out as these kids continue down the path of chess knowledge and play!! AWESOME!
Congratulations to all of you for your hard work throughout the year!
2006 Kansas State Elementary Championship:
The Quail Run chess club once again has been crowned state champions!!
After a 2nd place finish last year, they fought hard to get the top prize back!
We congratulate each team member and are also proud to announce that 6th grader
Alan Shi has earned top honors as he IS the new state champion in the elementary
division!! Congratulations on your undefeated showing at the tournament, Alan!
We're very proud of you! Alan did not win the team trophy on his own--he had
help from 5th grader Garrick Clapp who won 5 of his 6 games and 2nd grader Cole
Reams and 5th grader Luke Lesslie who won 4.5 games each! Great effort boys!
Everyone did their part and cheered each other on their way to the "Gold"!
Team members also included: Caleb Borovik, Andrei Elliott, Ting-Ting Shi, Aaron
Simon, Finn Dobbs, Eileen Huang, Josh Kallenbach, Chas Sedlock, and Jonathan
Lesslie.
Quail Run chess has a proud history of championships including the 1st place
team trophy in 8 of 10 past years and a few individual champions to boot! If
you haven't noticed all their hard earned hardware on display in the library
you should check it out!
Also look for our "booth" at the picnic before school commences in the fall
to find out how you and your child can get involved! And remember: "Chess
